I am not sure that there would be Ice Cream for sale in the shop in 1922 as Stanhoe did not have electricity connected until the 1940’s as Mrs Blackburn describes in her recordings.

Fern Cottage, or the shop, became the home of Mr and Mrs Percy Bloy and their daughters Doreen and Beryl, Mr Bloy ran a taxi at one stage, and a paper round was run from the shop. Hospital Sunday , and a health insurance scheme too I think, was one of their occupations .
Both Doreen , as Doreen Bullock, and Beryl, as Beria George ,have contributed widely to our Archive.

Mrs Goss and her daughter Ella, 1922. Mrs Bloys shop closed in the early 1970’s.
In the 1950’s it was a wonderful place to visit with some pocket money as it sold 1d packets of crisps (broken) and sweets, and liquorice, and sherbet, which might be treats on the walk home from school..

The right hand cottage was lived in by Mr Gussie (Augustus Cornelius ) Ireson and family, and later his daughter. The left hand cottage was lived in by Mr Ernest Ireson , his wife Winnie, and his 3 sons John, Chris, and Steven who all maintained ties with Stanhoe once they married. There are recordings by John and Steven in the Recordings section of the website.
The houses were eventually declared unfit for habitation and Mr Ireson moved to a comfortable local authority house locally, probably in the mid 1970’s. In the 21st century these cottages have become one holiday home , or second home , which is not permanently lived in.

The Sanpher family lived at the far end of Chapel Yard in a house at right angles to the other houses. They were one of the brave families who took advantage of the governments offer of a £10 fare to Australia , and all emigrated there from a very rural Stanhoe.

Both of these bungalows, the prefab originally built by the Trundle family with much excitement, in the 1950’s , and the new build from the 1980’s built for Mr and Mrs Mitchell on the edge of the Chapel Yard gardens across the road from the Yard, are now in the 21st century second homes, or holiday homes, which are not permanently lived in.

This far end house of Chapel Yard was lived in by Miss Leah Stangroom in the 1950’s and 1960’s, an elderly lady , a friend of my Grandma. She was probably the daughter of Mr Stangroom who was in charge of the Wesleyan Chapel next door in the Docking Road, which was closed in the 1920’s or 1930’s due to disrepair and low number in the congregation, as well as the amalgamation of Chapel memberships.
Since the late 20th century all of this row of Chapel Yard houses and the chapel have become holiday homes, or second homes, which are not permanently lived in.

The back view of houses in Docking Road, and not Chapel Yard.
On the right is the edge of the prefab bungalow called Arlene built by Pauline and Arthur Walker. Demolished in 2020 to make way for a new build house called Field View I think.
In the foreground the solitary house was originally lived in by Mrs Wright the postwoman. It was accessed past the prefab bungalow and was not lived in for many years. It was demolished about 2015.
At right angles to that, in the background are the houses in Bakers Yard.,
I do not know what the long agricultural building was.
Chapel Yard is at right angles beyond this.
