Sarah and Percy Bloy lived in Fern Cottage in Docking Road, or The Street,) where Mrs Bloy had her small shop, one of 3 in the village. They were very active in village life especially with the Methodist Chapel, and Hospital Sunday. They also ran a village paper round, and Mr Bloy ran a small taxi service .

There are several photos related to the Bloy family kindly loaned by daughter Beryl George ; 01423, 01632, 01420, 01416, 01412, 01414, 01067.

Mr and Mrs Bloy organised the Stanhoe branch of The Norfolk and Suffolk Hospitals Association Scheme.
They collected donations on Hospital Sunday.

But I also believe that they ran a small contributary savings/ insurance scheme for families to save for future medical treatment before the Health Service was formed.

Hospital Sunday was an important social event in Stanhoe, organised by members of the Methodist Chapel, at one time Mr Percy Bloy, and later Mrs Ethel Green.
There was a procession, a service attended by a rector, a collection for the Norfolk Hospitals Association, and this was followed by a tea.

Other Hospital Sunday photos are; 01069, 01491,01411, and related The Bitish Legion 01205.

I am not sure that there would be Ice Cream for sale in the shop in 1922 as Stanhoe did not have electricity connected until the 1940’s as Mrs Blackburn describes in her recordings.

Fern Cottage, or the shop, became the home of Mr and Mrs Percy Bloy and their daughters Doreen and Beryl, Mr Bloy ran a taxi at one stage, and a paper round was run from the shop. Hospital Sunday , and a health insurance scheme too I think, was one of their occupations .
Both Doreen , as Doreen Bullock, and Beryl, as Beria George ,have contributed widely to our Archive.
