The Baliff’s cottage for Grange Farm, situated next door to The Grange. Called Grange Cottage it was probably built in the 1950’s and was lived in by the Hurn family before becoming The Pottery in the 21st century. In 2022 it is to be demolished and a large modern house with garage, and new front wall, are to be replacements .

Gillian Beckett says that these stones were found behind tbe baliff’s house, Grange Cottage, later called The Pottery. They were in the former farmyard and were perhaps used for supporting a base for stacks .

A sad photo of the small building called Mr Curson’s Shop, in Post Office Yard next to Stanhoe Post Office. Photo taken in 1987 when it was closed.
Mr Tom Curson was wounded in the 1914 -1918 war and on his return to the village was trained as a shoe mender and had his workshop on the left hand side of the door inside the Post Office. There would have been plenty of boots to mend.
When the Post Office was renovated in the 1950’s his Shop was moved into this small building next door in Post Office Yard. Although boot wearing was in decline people wore leather soled shoes for many years after that so he was kept very busy.
His story is told with his Wedding Anniversary paper cutting photo also in the Collection.
